Week 30

This week in Social Studies we made Peruvian pan flutes!! They are incredible! We made them out of paper. First we had a popsicle stick, then we rolled paper into tubes, taped them and glued them to the popsicle stick. Then we painted the tubes to look like wood and added our bracelets. They look like real Peruvian pan flutes!

We got eggs this week that we will be hatching into chicks!! The eggs will be kept in an incubator in room 15. It should take about 20-30 days for the eggs to hatch then we will have adorable little chicks in the school! Then we are going to give them back to the farm we got the eggs from so that they can live a happy little chicken life, but not before we learn all about their lifecycle!

We asked some really good questions about the eggs that we will be answering while we learn about the chicks lifecycle:

This week we went swimming! Swimming is a little different this year because we have been put into groups and not into levels like it used to be. We have been learning lots of neat skills.

In Science we started the building part of our building challenge. It was certainly a feat in collaboration and using materials well. We built some pretty incredible structures to solve the problem we were given. We thought like engineers and architects and did a really great job! It is clear how much effort and thought went into the planning and the building of our structures!

We started reading "The One and Only Ivan" this week. This is a really really good book! We get to read it at the pool together too before our swimming lessons start. This book is about a silverback gorilla that lives in a mall. There is also an elephant named Stella, a baby elephant named Ruby and also a dog named Bob. Ivan is an artist and lives in a small "domain" where people come to look at him. He is the only gorilla in the mall. There are some human characters too, Julia, another artist that gives Ivan paper and crayons. George, Julia's dad and Mack the owner at the mall.

We finished the floral art piece we started with our buddies last week. We added details with sharpies and they look so pretty! They are hanging in the hall so everyone can see them and be reminded of Spring, even if there was a snow storm warning on Monday!

At lunch we finished watching the original Jumanji and started watching Nine Lives.

Tonight is the start of Parent Teacher Conferences. Miss Kolb and Miss Klem can't wait to see you and your parents in the classroom to show off and talk about the amazing learning and effort you have been putting into grade 3/4!

Until next time,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
