Week Sixteen

This week certainly was wild! We had lots of celebrations and get togethers with the whole school. Check out all of the activities we did:

All this week we sang holiday songs in the gym together. Elfis even came for a surprise visit!

Report cards went home this week. Everyone should be very proud of all the hard work you have put in since September and of all the amazing work you have done so far this year! Miss Kolb and Miss Klem are very excited to continue learning with you in the new year!

We got some goodie bags from Miss Kolb and Miss Klem as an appreciation gift and a reminder of how proud they are of us and all the hard work we have been doing since September!

This week Mr. Collins came back from his trip to Mexico! Because it snowed so much this week (Welcome back to Canada Mr. Collins!) we got to go snowshoeing and it was so fun and a lot of work (especially for the teachers that had to put on all of the snowshoes!)!

We had Christmas Store and the grade 5/6 Bake Sale, they raised over $500 for the drop-in center!

We had an amazing week this week! There was not a single minus on the board! WOW! This means that we all got to go right into free choice and enjoy each others company before we take a 2 week break!

Some of us were so wiped out from this week that they chose a nap for their free choice activity.

We had a birthday this week! Happy Birthday K!

This week Miss Kolb and Miss Klem wore ONE sweater together ALL DAY! In the spirit of the holidays they wanted to stick together all day and work on their team work skills. What a day it was!

We finished our comic life posters! They are hanging up in the hallway and they look super duper cool!

We have continued to read Wonder and Mr. Southworth came in again to read to us, it is his favourite book so he likes to come visit us as much as he can while we are reading it so he can talk about it with us.

We finished sharing our "What if Everybody did That?" ideas. There were some very thoughtful ideas and important conversations that were had about our safety and responsibility.

Choir and Handbells performed on Wednesday in front of the whole school! They did a great job!

We had Pyjama Day on the last day of school before winter break!

This Thursday we had a half day and now school will be out until January 8th. We will see you next year on Monday January 8th 2018 bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to learn!

Have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Week Fifteen

Our book pages made it safe and sound to the publisher this week! Our book started the publishing process on Monday December 11th and we will receive our book at the beginning of February. We are all so excited to be published authors! It is quite the process to get a book published and we can hardly wait to see it when it is all finished. Click below to watch a short video of the process our book will go through:

We played a fun math game on the computers to practice rounding. If you want to play at home, click below!

The grade 5/6's are having a bake sale next week to raise money for the Drop-In Center. They have worked hard to bake lots of goodies and treats to sell. If you are interested in helping out this cause you can bring in some $$ next week, goodies will be priced at .50c to $2.00

CJFS is also collecting non-perishable food items for the food bank until the 20th. If you can, please bring in some food items to place under the tree in the Learning Commons.

Candy sales ended this week. You will get your candy canes on Tuesday next week.

Some of us finished our flyers using Comic Life 3 and they look amazing! These friends will help the teachers next week as mini experts for those who will need help to finish up!

On Thursday we had a number sense math test. We had to represent numbers in a variety of ways such as in standard form, written form, expanded form as well as using pictures and other strategies. We also had to do add 10 more and 10 less or 100 more and 100 less, greater than, less than, equal to and order numbers and fill in a place value chart. Miss Kolb and Miss Klem were super impressed with how well we did! We sure learned a lot in the last few months about numbers!

We continue to do agenda every day. While the blog is more detailed, it is important to check the agenda for important news every day!

Mrs. Gjosund had her last lesson with us this week. We talked about different types of problems and their size. We learned about the difference between small, medium and large problems. We got to play a game with hula hoops to figure out the size of the problem on some slips of paper. It was helpful to go over what makes a big problem vs. a small problem.

We had a fire drill this week and we did amazing! Our line leaders were super duper responsible and led us out to the field where we met our teachers for attendance and we stayed quiet the whole time! Wow!

We got to take some art home this week. We took our feathers from the large mural we had up in the hallway home.

This week we started reading a new book together called "Wonder" We even had the special privilege of having a guest reader in on Thursday. Mr. Southworth graced us with his presence and amazing reading skills. This made Mr. Robinson pretty jealous and he would like to come in to read us a chapter soon.

At lunch we finished watching "Ratatouille" a lovely tale about true friendship and love and we started watching "Inside Out" this is an awesome movie about how our brains and emotions work.

We had ICNR this week. Because Ms. Gunderson was teaching music this week in the LC, ICNR brought everything into our classroom! They set up all the books on our tables and we got to browse in here. Then we went to Room 6 to read with Constable Kim and her friend Dispatcher Tara. A dispatcher is someone that works at 911 and answers emergency phone calls. They read us some super funny books! They read us a book that really cracked us up called "Where's my Tushy!?" they also read us "Bark, George!"  "The Mustache Baby" and "How To Get Your Teacher Ready" we laughed and laughed and laughed!

You can go to the Village Square Library and check them out!

We are going to have an ICNR Pizza Party in January! It is going to be on Jan. 10 at 6pm at the Village Square Library.

Next week on Dec. 21 it is PJ day! Remember you can wear your PJ's but leave blankets and toys at home!

We had a stellar week! Everyone earned free choice, the amount of bright orange stars on our board is a sight to see! It has been amazing to see how kind and respectful everyone has been. Miss Klem and Miss Kolb's wishes that everyone would get free choice has finally come true! This means they get to play too! We sure would like this to keep up so we can all have some fun together at the end of week after working so hard every day!

Next week we have carol singing in the gym. Choir will be singing and handbells will be performing as well. If parents would like to come and watch, you can come to the gym on Wednesday December 20th at 1:15pm.

Mr. Collins will be back in the gym on Monday! We sure missed him but Ms. Phillips was a great dance teacher too! She sure has good moves and grooves!

If you would like to vote for the animal CJFS is going to adopt go to the CJFS blog to place your vote! The pole will end on Tuesday. Click below:
