Week 29

We continued to learn about the celebrations and traditions of the countries we are studying. Last week we learned about Ukraine and this week we learned more about Peru! Watch the video below to listen to two traditional Peruvian instruments, the quena and the pan flute!

We have also been working on our note taking skills. Turns out it can be a bit tricky to pick out the most important information instead of copying everything. We are getting pretty good at taking notes!

For Social Studies/ art we are going to be making our very own pan flutes! On Friday we started making the decoration part for the pan flutes using yarn. We learned how to use a square knot to make a bracelet and we braided the yarn too.

Even Ms. S joined in on the fun!

We had ICNR this week. We got new books from the Village Square Library. Please take care of them!

We met with our grade 1/2 buddies this week and started a really pretty water colour spring art piece! We are going to finish working on them next week.

Instead of free choice this week we had art, gym and music! It was a busy Friday!

We started badminton in the gym.

Next week for the students that signed up for the Young Writers Conference they will be accompanying Miss Kolb and Miss Klem on Saturday April 21st!

In Science we have been collecting recyclable materials to use for building. We have continued to learn about what an architect and engineer do and how they work together. We will be working on solving a building and design problem related to how students around the world get to school. This week we tested some shapes to find which shapes are strongest for building and we have been learning about and researching bridges. We have been talking about how Engineers and Architects work closely together to design and construct bridges that are not only functional but also neat to look at! Check out this cool video we watched of the top 10 craziest bridges in the world!

.

We researched four different types of bridges, the ones we researched were called: beam, suspension, arch and truss bridges.

Next week on the 17th will be the two week mark for our new pencil system. If you still have your original pencil you will get a bonus ticket!

We had a birthday this week! Happy Birthday H!

The students that stay for lunch got pizza this week! Miss Klem almost got away with it!

Next week swimming starts. I will need a bathing suit and a towel as well as plastic bag to keep my wet towel and bathing suit in. I will also need a big lunch because I will be pretty tired and hungry from all that swimming! (Also, don't forget to bring underwear for after swimming!)

Next week is parent teacher conferences. Please remember to book a time! This means that there is a half day on Thursday and no school for students on Friday. Conferences are 4:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday night and 8:30am-1:00pm on Friday.

This week we did a great job during our reading time, check us out!

Until next week,

Love,
