Week 26

We had such a busy week! We had our Celebration of Learning, it was so much fun! Check out some of the photos below!

This week we have continued working on being more mindful. We have been practicing meditation with the help of a bell after lunch time to help bring us back into the green zone and ready for learning. Listen below if you would like to try the bell meditation at home!

In Science/Social Studies we have been watching videos about how kids in India go to school. It turns out that lots of students in India have to get to school in pretty crazy ways. It is very different from how we get to school. They have to walk a long way and sometimes even have to ride in boats! We are learning that a lot of the kids in the videos are wanting to grow up to be teachers.

Our student teacher Ms. Soriano taught us a music lesson. We got to make our own beats and practiced beats using a song called "Shake the Papaya Down"

We did math this week, of course! We love math! Some of us have been working on some pretty complicated word problems with multiple steps and operations. These were some of the ones we worked on, see if you can solve them yourself!

1. At tonight’s Celebration of Learning, Mr. Robinson and Mr. Southworth think that
345, 987 people are going to show up to see all of the magnificent art the students at CJFS have made. Last year, 7621 people came to our celebration of learning. The year before that, 5496 people came. How many more people will be coming to tonight’s celebration?

2. The Scimitar Oryx has been extinct in the wild since 1998, there are about 9000 Scimitar Oryx living in Zoos and protected areas now. If the year is 2018, how many years has this animal been extinct in the wild?

3. There are about 1500 volcanoes in the world. Miss Kolb has climbed 3 of them by age 27. If she wants to climb 81 by the time she is 40 how many more volcanoes does she have to climb?
*Bonus – how many volcanoes a year would she have to climb to meet her goal?

See if you can write some of your own word problems that maybe we can share with the class!

We had ICNR this week. We got new books from the Village Square Library. As a reminder if you have any Village Square books still at home from last month, please remember to return them! Constable Kim Dispatcher Tara read us three books! They read us, T.L.C., Who Wants a Hug, and Milk Goes to School.

At last we have completed our Fables! They really turned out to be so amazing! The illustrations are thoughtful and detailed and the stories are really interesting. They look amazing!

We had buddies this week! We got to share our books with them, it was fun to give them a special sneak preview of our books! They were the very first people besides us to see our books.

We got to have gym this Friday! Yay! In gym we have been playing mini hockey games, it is so fun to play the great ol' Canadian sport! On Thursday we went outside for gym! It was cold but still fun!

We are almost done the book Wonder... this means that a special surprise is looming!! Stay tuned! There is a second part to the book Wonder where we would get to hear about Julian's perspective, we are hoping to read this before the surprise!

On Thursday we had a "run-through" assembly in the gym. This was an opportunity for the Choirs and Handbells to have a rehearsal for the big night!

We had our Celebration of Learning this week! At last! It has been a busy couple of weeks getting ready to show everyone all the hard work we have been putting into our learning. Parent Council had put on an incredibly delicious looking bake sale! Yummy! The Div 1 and Div 2 choirs performed. They did a great job! The handbells also performed and sounded simply angelic. It took lots of work to get ready and room 7 & 8 knocked it out of the park, along with the whole school! It was such a fun night and it was very evident all the hard work that both the teachers and students put into putting on such a successful night! Wow!

As it was a formal event, the silly staff got all dressed up for the Art Gala!

Ms. Gunderson

It was so nice to see all of the families that attended!

Mr. Southworth showing off his moves on the red carpet!

Teachers and students were having way too much fun!

Next week it is Family Movie Night on Thursday March 22. Come to the school with your family to watch a movie! Thursday is also a half day, and Friday there is no school as Spring Break begins for 1 week.

We earned a bonus recess this week!

We have a field trip on Monday!!!!! If you have not returned your forms they are OVER DUE! Please send them Monday morning!!!!!!

In April we will be going swimming. This is a friendly reminder to bring in your fees and forms.
