Week 25

This week in gym we started learning about hockey. Mr. Collins bought new goalie pads for the gym we got to try out this week! We learned about a couple different types of "shots" you can take to get goals in hockey, a wrist shot and a slap shot. On Friday we had "free gym" and it was so fun!

In math we have been learning how to have "math talks." Some of the steps for this are to restate, add on, reason, question, and revise our thinking. We also learned a new strategy for addition and have continued to practice subtraction while sharing our thinking with each other using math talk. Ms. Beamer and Ms. Engel joined us for math this week!

With our student teacher Ms. Soriano, who joined us three times this week instead of only once, we read the second book to "Journey" the wordless picture book we read last week. This book is called "Quest." We wrote what we thought would happen at the end and we are working in groups to put on a skit! We were able to take details from all of our stories and add them together. Every one has to have a role so we have been figuring out how to include everyone. It was so fun to incorporate drama into our learning! Some of us are quite the little actors! Wow! We performed our skits on Friday!

Our Celebration of Learning is next week! It will be the evening of Thursday March 15th starting at 6pm and going until 7:30pm. You do not need to stay for the whole evening however if you do come you MUST come with a parent. The idea is to tour the school as a family and celebrate everyone's achievements in art. This celebration will be a little different from our previous years. It will be like coming to a real art gallery! We will be displaying the work we did with our Artist in Residence. The choir will also be performing this night and we will have "buskers" performing talents in the hallways. There will even be a cafe set up in the Learning Commons as well as a Bake Sale put on by Parent Council! It should be a beautiful and tasty night!

Thursday was International Women's Day. We had two girls in our class that were part of a girls research club. They researched some important women and gave presentations to us on Thursday. To get ready for the celebration we wrote artist biographies and artist statements about our work.

It was a friend's birthday on Monday! Happy Birthday I!

We worked on completing our story books this week. We wrote dedications, a synopsis and an about the author page. Our book covers are back from the laminator (and look AMAZING!). We just have our good drafts of our illustrations left to go and we worked on our illustration plans to get ready.

On March 15th our swim forms and fees are DUE back to Miss Kolb and Miss Klem. We will be going swimming on April 16 - 23. Please return the forms so the pool can organize classes.

In music we are starting recorders.

March 19th we are going on a free field trip to the Humane Society, which is an animal shelter. Forms will be handed out on Monday!

We have ICNR next week, if you have any Village Square Library books at home please return them.

There is a club called "Wellness - Warriors" this is a club about caring and kindness.

We added a new "magic deciding jar" to our classroom this week. It is filled with colourful popsicle sticks that have our names on them. If our name gets drawn out of the jar it means its our turn to answer a question.

We also added opportunities for "bonuses" There is the words "bonus" and "no bonus" on the board and a magnet balances back and forth during the day. If we get bonus it means we have been working really hard and have earned an opportunity for a 10 minute activity that is super fun like a dance party, or extra minutes of the lunch movie we are watching, or we get to go outside for an extra recess!

We switched it up this week and did the blog on Thursday because Friday was going to be super busy with performing skits, and having gym and music.

Until next week,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
