Week 36

Sports day has been moved to next Friday June 8th due to the crummy weather. It is a "Day at the Beach" theme. Please dress like you are going to have an awesome day at the beach, but please leave bathing suits at home!

We finished Peter Rabbit, our lunch movie this week. Ms. Luzzi had a day off this week and so Mr. Robinson spent lunch time with us.

We uploaded new items to iris! Check them out! Click below to go to the iris website and sign in.

IMPENDING FIELD TRIP!!! We are going to the Calgary Zoo on June 14th! Forms are due back with $5 by Friday June 8th.

We finished all of our country guides this week!  I get to take them home to study so I am more prepared for my Social Studies test on Monday!!

There is 17 school days left until summer break!

We had a science presentation this week. A man named Ed came in and we learned some more about hearing and sound. We got to see how sound waves move using a cord. We noticed that sound waves get smaller and smaller as they travel long distances. We also got to look into an acoustic guitar to see how it makes sounds. We learned that the hole in the middle of the acoustic guitar is there so that the air inside the guitar can catch the sound waves and amplify them. Another thing we noticed about the guitar was that there were 6 strings on it and they were all different sizes. Each string gave off a different sound that was either a high or low pitch. There were tuners on the guitar attached to the strings and you could loosen or tighten the string to change the pitch of the string. We did an experiment by banging a tuner on the table and putting it in a container of water. We saw that the sound waves (VIBRATIONS) sent the water sprinkling around all over the place and created ripples in the water.

We have some real live chicks at the school! Farmer Mark brought some chicks in that are hatched, and adorable!!

We had a sharing circle this week. This was a nice opportunity for us to share how we are feeling about school and to get some advice about problems we are having as well as talk about the good things that have been happening in our class. We also played the cooperative water passing game again! It was so fun!

We had a birthday this week, Happy Birthday N!

We started a new novel for story and snack. Our goal is to finish the book before the end of the month so that we can watch the movie and do a compare and contrast because there are lots of differences between the movie and the book. The book is Stuart Little by E.B. White.

In Science we have started to learn more about the animal families. We have chosen an animal (some quite bizarre ones!) to research. We have been on the computers to start independent research on our animals and we will be making an informational poster to share with the class in a presentation.

On Tuesday afternoon we had a guest teacher when Miss Klem was away. Her name was Ms. F, she was very nice. We earned a bonus on Tuesday and we got to go outside! We noticed some cool clouds while we were outside too.

We have a generous friend in the classroom that shared some presents with us this Friday. :)

We had free writing this Friday and free choice!

Next week is "Ride Your Bike to School Day" on Tuesday June 5th. Ride your bike to school if you can! There is a video with more information about this on the CJFS blog!

Until next week,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
