Week 32

This week we researched about chicks and their life cycles in Science. Farmer Mark came in and told us about his farm and the eggs he gave us. We candled all the eggs and discovered that only 2/18 eggs had been fertilized so we will only have two chicks hatch! Check out the video below to see one of our chicks in it's egg.

This week we went to the gym to watch a play put on by Quest Theatre called "We are all Treaty People." We had a really good discussion together after the play to talk about what it meant and a little bit about the history of Canada and our First Nations population. We remembered Orange Shirt Day from the beginning of the year and we talked about residential schools, what a treaty is and how in the past the promises that were made by the government of Canada were not kept. We talked about treaty 7 and how we are a part of it. As a school we went back to the gym in the afternoon and took part in a big dance together.

This week we researched the human ear on the computer and we made plasticine models of all the parts. We learned about all the different parts of the ear and that the three tiniest bones in our bodies are in the ear!

Miss Klem was away for Thursday and Friday. We missed her!

Music Monday is coming up this Monday! Monday May 7th is Music Monday.

We had some Birthdays this week, Happy Birthday C & H!

We did not get to do henna this week but we have our sights set on getting it done on Monday!

Thursday we got to go outside for gym. It was so much fun! We played with hula-hoops and skipping ropes.

This week in Social Studies we started learning about the traditions and celebrations in Tunisia. We made the connection that all of the countries we have been researching used to be governed by other countries. France used to have power over Tunisia for a long time. They have only been independent for 62 years! We learned that majority of the population in Tunisia speaks Arabic and practices the Muslim religion.

We finished The One and Only Ivan this week. It was about a gorilla that lived in the mall and a baby elephant came too. It was about their plan to escape the mall and live a happier life. Ivan was a Silverback Gorilla, we learned that it was actually based on a true story about a gorilla that used to live in a mall.

Until next week,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
