Week Ten

We have made it to the double digits! It is officially 10 weeks that we have been learning together in Room 7 & 8, wow!

The seeds Miss Klem baked for us were so yummy! Thank you Miss Klem!

Today we had our Remembrance Day Assembly and we made a video to share with the entire school about what peace means to us and to share the artwork we made along with the poems we wrote. We also have many students who are sharing their talents in choir, handbells and are playing instruments. We were extremely respectful during the assembly and our teachers were very proud of us.

We started playing games with omnikin balls in gym and using footballs this week. Next week we are going to start basketball! Practice keeping your eyes UP so we don't get bonked on the head with any hard basketballs!

We went on a field trip this week to the Village Square Library. We went for ICNR and on the field trip we got to return our books and get new books to take home and we also got to play and explore in the library and check out their new children's area. It had lots of games, books and technology we could use. When we got our new library books the library gave us a new reusable cloth bag to take our books home in. We even got to decorate them! At the end of the field trip we got to watch some Pixar short films, they were so funny! Unfortunately Constable Kim was not able to join us at the library so we decorated a bag for her.

These are the short films we got to watch:

Presto!

Partly Cloudy

We even survived the bus ride... but just barely...

In math we started to talk about "number sense" and what that is. We did a number sense pre-assessment to see what we already know about how to use numbers and what we will learn more about together. We talked about what a number is, how we use numbers and where you can find them. We played a fun math game called "Last Number Standing" ask me how to play so we can play at home too! We also learned what the word "subitizing" means and learned that we subitize familiar groupings of numbers all the time.

We had a Rocks and Minerals assessment this week. It was a review of all of the stuff we have learned about rocks and minerals this year. We learned so much!! The bonus question on the test was: "What is the difference between intrusive igneous rocks and extrusive igneous rocks?" Try to answer it for yourself!

We are going to be writing a picture book together! It is about how to take care of the students in room 7 & 8 and how to keep us happy and healthy. We will be typing our pages and illustrating them so put into an actual hard cover book! It will be an amazing addition to our classroom library. These books will also be available to parents if they wish to purchase their own copies for home!

In Social Studies we started making the posters for our natural disaster research. We will be sharing what we learned with each other next week by presenting our information in our groups using our incredible posters!

We have two new friends in our classroom this week! Welcome!

As a special treat at the end of the day on Thursday we played "Heads Up, Seven Up!" it was pretty fun! We have lots of sneaky students in here!

We started a kindness box. In this box we will put positive notes throughout the week in it and read them together on Fridays. We have decided as a class that it is important to start learning more about what respect actually means and the word "empathy" so that we can begin to treat each other with more kindness on a more consistent basis.

Some of us joined new clubs this week. Yoga Club and Leadership Club started this week.

We also earned free choice this week, woo hoo!

We hope you have a great weekend and a thoughtful Remembrance Day.

Until next week,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
