Week 9

In week 9 we are learning about basket ball in gym. A Canadian named James Naismith invented basketball. He first used a peach basket as a basket and it eventually became a net.

We have also been playing a cool down game in gym to rest our muscles. We all lay down on the floor and if you move you sit on the bench. We are super good at this game!

We learned a lot about UNICEF and Hurricane Matthew. We raised money this week at our school to help give aid to the people in Haiti who need help. We set a classroom target of $50.00 we graphed and charted the donations we collected and by the end of the week we raised $62.11! We beat our target and we are so happy that we get to help others in need.

We continued to work on our recycled bottle art. We made tissue paper flowers to go inside and we wrote our good copies of our peace haikus on the bottles. They look soooo beautiful, fabulous and amazing and fantastic!

In math we went to "estimation stations" around the classroom to help us learn about and get really good at estimating amounts of items. The items we estimated around the classroom were rulers, glue sticks, green pencil crayons, blue markers, pom pom fluff balls, how many unifix cubes long our shoes were, how many words we have on our word wall so far, how many rubber bands there were in a tin, how many chairs there were in our classroom, how many counters long we are and how many cushions there are in the classroom and how many books were in a tub. After we estimated the amounts we had to decide When we were finished estimating and counting the actual amount we had to find the difference between the estimate we made and the actual amount. We learned that we use estimation a lot for shopping, time, and amounts of things.

In science this week we began editing our informational videos about recycling. We are so lucky to have imovie and editing experts in our school like Mr. Southworth and Ms. Craig who helped us.

Until next week,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
