Week 21

We went on a field trip this week! We got to see the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra perform some of the classical pieces written by some of the composers we had been learning about in Music with Ms. Gunderson. They played Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Benjamin Britton in a show called "The Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra". Some of us dressed up fancy for the orchestra and looked amazing! It was so neat to get to see all of those instruments.

Some of us were afraid of heights so they got to go down, back stage into the Broadcast Room! It was really neat and Miss Kolb snuck a picture of the lighting booth back there too!

Field Trips sure are exhausting!

Our last visit with the Artist was this Monday. Our masks look amazing!! We all worked very hard on the finishing touches. The masks are now up on display in our classroom, gallery style. They are truly incredible and we can't wait to show them off in March at our Celebration of Learning! It is pretty unbelievable how we all turned a simple paper plate into an incredibly realistic looking animal! WOW!

We worked more on our fables and folk tales. We are all in the editing stages of our writing and our stories are very interesting, we started peer editing each others work and giving feedback. Everyone will get a chance to sit with the teacher and go through our stories. We started using a thesaurus to add more descriptive and juicy words to our writing.

In gymnastics we have been working on stretches, strengthening exercises, rolls, balancing and jumps! We have also played a game called Fort Dodge Ball. We get to build forts and them throw dodge balls at the other teams.

This month is FRIENDLY FEBRUARY! We started off the week watching a video together and writing from the different characters perspectives. Watch the video below and talk about it with your family!

The weather was absolutely wild this week! On Thursday only 28 friends came to school and on Friday we had 29 friends come to school! Along with Friendly February teachers and students are keeping their eyes open for kind acts happening around the school. On Thursday all of the teachers helped each other get out of the parking lot after the big snow fall that happened! It was so nice to see all the teachers helping each other.

We had two more birthdays this week! February sure is a busy month for birthdays!! Happy Birthday I & K!

In Social Studies we finished up our research fact pages on the countries using the computers. Next week we will research Canada and do a comparison of the 5 countries.

Next week is Valentine's Day on Wednesday. We are asking that if you would like to bring in Valentines please bring in a Valentine for everyone in the class so nobody feels left out. You can either bring in a Valentine for all 46 kids or you can bring enough for your classroom (either Room 7 OR Room 8). We will be sending home a list of first names and ask that you please not send candies or chocolates.

We earned Free Choice and had Free Writing this week! Yay!

Next week there is NO SCHOOL on THURSDAY OR FRIDAY! The teachers will be at teachers convention. There is also no school the following Monday as it is Family Day.

We also have It's a Crime not to Read (ICNR) on Wednesday February 14th. If you have any Village Square Library books at home please return them by next Wednesday.

Until next time,

Love,

Room 7 & 8

Have a great weekend everybody!
