Week 14

We had another birthday this week! Happy Birthday D!

There are a lot of events happening this month:

Candy Canes go on sale December 11th to December 15th they are .50 cents each and you can buy as many as you want. The money goes towards our patrollers.

ICNR is happening December 13th - please return Village Square Library books by this day!

And all CJFS library books are due back by December 14th.

Pajama Day is going to be on December 21st. Bring your comfiest Pajamas but please leave blankets and toys at home!

There will be carol singing in the gym from December 18th - December 21st

The "Christmas Store" will be "open" the last week of school before the break where students are able to purchase inexpensive gifts and treats for the holiday season if they would like.

Report cards are going home on December 20th

December 21st is the last day of school before winter break. This is a half day!

School will resume again on January 8th

We started dance this week in gym. Who knew there were so many talented dancers in this class! Mr. Collins will be in Mexico for the entire week next week! We will miss him but we hope he has a great time on the beach with his family! Mrs. Phillips will be in the gym until he comes back.

Some of us even got to use Mr. Collins microphone to count down in!

Mrs. Gjosund came in this Monday and we talked about the difference between tattling and telling and reminded us about whole body listening.

In health we have been talking about what expected and unexpected behaviours are. This means what are the predictable behaviours for activities at school like when we come to the carpet. Ask me what is expected behaviour at school. To go along with this we read a book called "What if Everybody Did That?" We had such good conversations about what some of the consequences are for certain behaviours. We then made up some of our own that we will share in class meetings next week.

If you would like to hear the book, click below (skip ahead to the 20 second mark):

We continued on with last weeks goals and have been making a really good effort. We did a reflection this week about how we feel we are doing as a class and as individuals. We wrote about strategies we can use for when we feel frustrated or upset with each other or ourselves.

1. We will listen to others showing whole body listening.

2. We will come to the carpet when it is expected.

3. We will keep our hands and bodies to ourselves.

In inquiry we presented our research about organizations at last! We also had a pop quiz about the organizations and this was an important lesson for some friends about using whole body listening when someone in our class or a group of our peers is sharing their research...

Some of us are participating in a WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) poster competition. Students were joined into small groups to create a poster about an endangered species that will be voted on and the school will adopt this animal (not to stay at the school though!!). This is through the Naturalization Committee at school. Check out the website for more information about how you could adopt an animal. The winning poster will determine the animal we symbolically adopt and the school will get a stuffed animal that will be raffled off.

In math we reviewed expanded form. We played a level up game and there was 6 levels. Miss Kolb and Miss Klem were SO SUPER IMPRESSED with the effort everyone put in and how everyone was up for the challenge! We even got into numbers with 6 digits!!! We will be having a math test about number sense next week before we move into addition and subtraction.

This week we have been continuing on with instructional writing. We got to go onto the computers to use an app called "Comic Life 3" to make flyers! We will finish them up next week.

The grade 6's challenged the teachers in a basketball game this week and the teachers remain the reigning champions!! Good luck next year 6's!

We had free writing this week. Miss Kolb and Miss Klem love to read about all of our creative ideas!

We earned free choice this week! Our teachers are so lovely and wonderful and said we could have free choice on a THURSDAY because there is no school on Friday. It was a very pleasant surprise. We are really starting to show respect towards each other on a more regular basis which means we have more opportunities to have some fun together!

The weather has been lovely this week, still chilly though sometimes so remember to keep coming to school prepared for winter weather.

Which teachers can you spot dressing warmly for the chilly weather?

There is no school tomorrow! Miss Klem and Miss Kolb will be at school though doing professional development with the other teachers at the school. See all you kids on Monday!

We're still working on spelling in here, but you get the idea.

and as requested, a picture of Miss Kolb and Miss Klem "playing around" outside:

Until next time,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
