Week Six!

In Social Studies we started to learn about natural disasters. Because Social Studies is the study of people we are learning about the effects that natural disasters have on the people that experience them. Some of the natural disasters we looked at were tornados, hurricanes, (add more)   This goes really nicely with what we are learning about in science. We are continuing with rocks and minerals and we will be looking at natural disasters from a scientific perspective as well as a social perspective. We will also begin learning about the properties of rocks next week.

In math we continued to learn how to use an analog clock. We figured out what the big hand does and the little hand does. We also did some homework this week to find out why we use "a.m." and "p.m." we discovered that it comes from the latin terms, "ante meridiem" and "post meridiem" meaning before mid-day and post mid-day. This helps to tell us if the time is in the morning or in the evening.

We started learning about estimation as well! We went around to a bunch of different estimation stations and did our best educational guessing.

We even estimated how many tickets were in our ticket jar!

After we watched a brainpop video about clocks and time we wrote letters to Mr. Robinson this week. We learned how to write a friendly letter, we asked him questions about himself that we are curious about and we told him about ourselves. We also labelled an envelope to be delivered to him!

Special Delivery to the office!

It was a wild Wednesday this week, it was not only Miss Klem's birthday but it was also fun lunch and ICNR. What a day!

For ICNR this week we got to borrow two books from the Village Square Library. We get to keep them for a month and we will return them and get new ones on November 9th when we have a field trip to the library!! We need to take care of these books that we are borrowing. During the visit we had this week Constable Janelle came in and read us 3 stories! She kept asking if we wanted to have question time but we really just wanted to hear her read stories to us! She commented that we are a big class of readers! She read us some funny stories, "When a Monster is Born" "What Teachers do After School," and "My Dad Thinks He's Funny." We will have another police officer read to us next month.

We sure do love to read!

In gym we are continuing with out soccer unit and we have worked more on our shooting abilities for getting goals.

Today we got our seating arrangement changed so that we can keep meeting new friends in our classroom.

We earned free choice again this week, yay!

Kids have NO SCHOOL on Monday! Teachers will be holding down the fort until you come back on Tuesday.

Until next week,

Love,

Room 7 & 8
