This week was a short week, we have NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY OR MONDAY!
This week we celebrated Colonel J Fred Scott Schools 40th birthday! We finally got to perform our song for the school and everyone loved it! We got lots of cheers and clapping. Miss Klem and Miss Kolb were super proud of us and how hard we worked to learn the song! The Parent Council organized muffins and treats like pencils, tattoos and wrist bands for us, it was so awesome, thank you so much parent council! It was really neat to have Chris Davis come to the assembly, that is Colonel J Fred Scott's grandson! Trustee King and Dr. Yee also came to celebrate.
In gym we started learning about Lacrosse in our hand/eye coordination unit. We learned that lacrosse is Canada's national sport! It is a dangerous sport so we are not going to be playing the games but we will be learning the skills.
On Wednesday we went to Rooms 3, 4, & 5's Assembly! They also liked the song "Can't stop the feeling" as much as we did and they also used it in their assembly. It was nice because we got to sing along in the audience. It was a very funny assembly that had a lot of humour. Turns out there are lots of great dancers and actors in grade 1/2!
In math we will be starting fractions and decimals next week. Over the weekend see how many decimal numbers or fractions you can find! In math we also played Trash It! It is a super fun game. Ask me how to play :)
In writing we have started planning and writing our first drafts of our fairytales! Everyone has such funny and creative ideas about how to incorporate the 5 elements from the spinning wheel. Miss Kolb and Miss Klem can hardly wait to read the finished products and publish them!
Two of our plants have already started to sprout! We started our research about Grow Calgary, an upcoming field trip we have planned for June 8. Ask me what I researched and learned about this organization and how I will be connected to it.
We are going on a field trip NEXT WEEK to the Calgary Children's Festival (Thursday May 25), please remember to bring in your form if you haven't already - it is now OVERDUE!
