Week Twenty

It was a short week but it certainly didn't stop us from learning a lot!

In science we continued to learn about simple machines! We began to build catapults. We got into teams and collaborated together on how to make an effective catapult. A catapult is a lever.

  

  

    

  

    

  

  

    

  

We had Scientists in Schools come this week and we met Scientist Jill. She is an engineer and knows a lot about simple machines. She had so many cool activities for us to try so that we could deepen our understanding of simple machines. The stations we went to were about gears, pulleys, levers and wheels. We even got to race mouse trap cars! We would like to send out a BIG thank you to all of our amazing volunteers, they were so helpful and really helped the day go by smoothly. In word work this week we learned about adjectives and adverbs. In writing we had to use our knowledge of adjectives to describe people who are important to us. Then we got to write a story or a letter to them. It was nice to write about an influential person in our lives.

We had a "Worry Dragons" lesson today. We will have 2 more. With Worry Dragons we will be talking about anxiety and emotions and how to manage them with Ms. Alley.

  

This week in gym we were using the scooters! We had lots of races and learned how to use the scooters. It was so fun. In gym next week we will be starting gymnastics. Please remember to wear COMFY AND MOVEABLE clothes and if you have hair passed your shoulders please bring an elastic so that it doesn't get in the way. Ideas for comfy clothes are sweat pants, leggings, or any type of stretchy pants or track pants. A t-shirt will also serve us well. Also leave jewelry at home.

In math we had a patterns pre-test to see what we know. We will be starting our patterns unit by talking more about patterns and elements of patterns like the "attributes."

  

We had TWO birthdays this week, Happy Birthday to A & H!!

This week, sadly, we didn't earn our free choice, instead we had a class meeting about kindness and respect.
